Trump's pick to be the next U.N. ambassador just abandoned him
No one wants to be a part of the Trump administration it feels like.
Late on Saturday night, Trump's hand-selected nominee to be the next ambassador to the United Nations withdrew her name from consideration.
Heather Nauert was supposed to replace Nikki Haley, even though Trump never formally submitted her name for Senate confirmation.
What's odd about her sudden withdrawal is the reasoning she gave. Apparently, her background check showed Nauert employing an immigrant nanny who was in the U.S. legally but wasn't authorized to work.
That wouldn't be enough to derail her taking the job, though. So, her withdrawal is seen as abandoning the president. Trump wouldn't have nominated her if he didn't already have a conversation about taking the position.
The problem for Trump is that this is just the latest person to abandon him and his administration. Go ahead and add her name to the list.
Here is the statement she released:
“I am grateful to President Trump and Secretary Pompeo for the trust they placed in me for considering me for the position of U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. However, the past two months have been grueling for my family and therefore it is in the best interest of my family that I withdraw my name from consideration.”
Some more info on this: Nauert abandoning Trump doesn't mean she doesn't support Trump. But, she just wasn't willing to go through the arduous grilling that would have been necessary in the Senate to take the job. Trump wanted the former Fox News anchor in the position and she just derailed that completely. Her pulling out reflects more negatively on Trump than her because she was his pick. Her confirmation faced a lot of uncertainty due to her lack of experience but she was nominated anyway.
