Trump: The Kurds are "no angels" and their deaths are no concern to us (VIDEO)
President Donald Trump is getting a ton of quick backlash for his comments in the Oval Office today:
"The Kurds are much safer right now. But the Kurds know how to fight. And as I said, they're not angels. They're not angels. If you take a look, you have to go back and take a look."
Trump later said, ironically, that the Kurds weren't really good fighters without U.S. help. That contradicts his own statements about them being "much safer" now.
11,000 Kurds died fighting alongside U.S. troops though in order to defeat ISIS in Syria. And they're not safer right now. Turkey has just invaded northern Syria to wipe them out. Trump abandoned them. Even Republicans in his own party acknowledge this.
Lindsey Graham was flabbergasted by Trump's statement today, saying that is even contrary to the mission of top officials surrounding the president:
"The statements by President Trump about Turkey’s invasion being of no concern to us also completely undercut Vice President Pence and Sec. Pompeo’s ability to end the conflict."
Trump also iterated that he was "fine" with Russia assisting President Bashar al-Assad’s regime in the conflict. “Syria may have some help with Russia and that’s fine. It’s a lot of sand,” Trump said.
