Trump: I didn't testify under oath because I didn't want to get caught (VIDEO)
Trump admitted that he refused to answer special counsel Robert Mueller's questions in person and under oath because he would have been caught lying. The admission came in a Friday interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos.
"If you answer these questions to me, now, why not answer them to Robert Mueller under oath?" Stephanopoulos asked.
Mueller "was looking to get us for lies, for slight misstatements," Trump told Stephanopoulos.
Of course, Mueller couldn't "get" Trump for "lies" unless Trump told them. By saying this, Trump seems to be admitting he couldn't get through the interview without lying.
In 2017, Trump claimed he was "100 percent" willing to testify before Mueller. He backtracked on that promise and never gave oral testimony to Mueller's team, instead sending written answers to a limited set of questions.
Trump's fear of testifying under oath is justified, because the truth is that Trump does lie.
According to the Washington Post, Trump has lied more than 10,700 times since stepping into the Oval Office, averaging 12 lies every single day.
Even Trump's most ardent supporters at Fox News warned him against testifying to Mueller because of how much Trump lies.
Trump's dishonesty has been a hallmark of his tenure in office, and he fully admits that he cannot be trusted to speak the truth.
