Trump suggests he could order a halt to social distancing because economy is hurting too much

President Trump made one last outburst publicly before going to bed on Sunday night shortly before midnight, suggesting to the world that Covid-19 was doing too much harm to the economy to justify the means.

He even put it in all CAPS, to let us know he wasn't playing around:

"WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF. AT THE END OF THE 15 DAY PERIOD, WE WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHICH WAY WE WANT TO GO!"

While he didn't say it specifically, there's really no other way to interpret it. Trump is actually contemplating giving up the advice of every health expert around him, let alone every medical expert on the planet, in order to get the money flowing again.

He reiterated that point in another outburst: "Fear of the virus cannot collapse our economy" while complaining of ordinary citizens being under "house arrest."

Meanwhile, on Monday, the Surgeon General of the United States, General Jerome Adams, is telling Americans the opposite:

“I want America to understand: This week, it’s going to get bad. We really, really need everyone to stay at home. … There are not enough people out there who are taking this seriously.”

This is sending mixed signals to people who still don't realize how serious a problem the spread of Covid-19 is. One of the biggest problems the United States has been having relative to other countries like South Korea who have been able to get things under control, is that people can't be convinced to follow health guidelines. Italy is learning that problem right now. We can restart the economy, no problem, but there will be a staggering human cost in the amount of lives lost.
