Trump said nobody knew about coronavirus a month ago, but he ignored briefing on it two months ago (VIDEO)
President Donald Trump gave another press conference about the coronavirus outbreak on Monday, this time telling a room full of reporters at the White House that no one was even thinking about this happening a month ago.
“We have an invisible enemy. We have a problem a month ago nobody ever thought about,” Trump said. “It’s just so contagious — sort of record-setting type contagion.”
Yet - we have video of Trump dismissing the coronavirus from two months ago when he was briefed on it.
At the World Economic Forum on January 22nd, Trump was told:
"The CDC has identified a case of coronavirus in Washington state, the Wuhan strain of this. If you remember SARs, that affected GDP, travel-related effects. Have you been briefed by the CDC and are you worried about a pandemic at this point?"
Trump replied: "No, not at all. We have it totally under control. It's one person coming in from China and we have it under control. It's gonna be just fine."
He couldn't have been more wrong on this.
Keep in mind - this is from the same president who called it a "hoax" just a few weeks ago.
"The Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus," Trump said. "One of my people came up to me and said, 'Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia.' That did not work out too well. They could not do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. ... They tried anything. ... And this is their new hoax."
Compare and contrast that statement with what Trump said today, suggesting that Americans could be hunkered down and practicing social distancing until at least late summer:
“People are talking about July, August -- or something like that," he said from the podium. “Could be longer than that.”
