Texas Governor Greg Abbott: 'I'm tired of the dying' from guns (VIDEO)

The Governor of Texas says he just can't stand these mass shootings anymore.

He gave a press conference talking about how the many shooting in his term have affected him.

“I am heartbroken by the crying of the people in the state of Texas. I am tired of the dying of the people of Texas. Too many Texans are in mourning. Too many Texans have lost their lives. The status quo in Texas is unacceptable, and action is needed,” Abbott said.

Does that mean he's finally going to do something about it?

The suspect in the Odessa and Midland, Texas shooting used an AR-type weapon according to Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Combs says Texas is a major problem, and that the agency is responding to the state rather frequently: The FBI is “here now almost every other week supporting our local and state partners on active shooters. We're almost every two weeks an active shooter in this country."

We commend Abbott on his words, but it was just a few months ago that the NRA was bragging about the Texas Governor signing ten pro-second amendment bills into law. 10 of them!

Abbott has consistently labeled himself a "gun rights" fan and this is no secret. Like President Trump, he'd more interested in fighting "mental health" than dealing with the gun problem.

Abbott once said he was "embarrassed" Texas was second to California in gun sales.

Has he finally seen the light? We doubt it.

It's likely that the emotional outcry from the community is so strong right now, that all Abbott can do is talk from his heart, rather than from his position of power.

Abbott read a text message from the mother of a 17-month old baby who was one of the victims from the mass shooting in Odessa, Texas.

"Toddlers are funny because they can get shot but still want to run around and play," the mother texted, according to Abbott. He read part of the message:

"Her mouth is pretty bad, but will heal and can be fixed. Thankfully it doesn't seem like her jaw was hit. Just lips, teeth and tongue. She's having surgery tomorrow to remove the shrapnel from her chest and to fix her lip and mouth and to get a better look at her tongue. We are thanking God for healing her and appreciate continued prayers."
