Pelosi slams Trump's speech: 'Mr. President, stop using fear against the American people'

Newly-selected Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi gave a rebuttal speech just moments after President Trump's rare address to the nation from the Oval Office in which he declared our southern border with Mexico a national crisis.

And, she slammed him good.

Here are some of her most stinging remarks:

"Sadly, much of what we heard from Trump about this shutdown has been full of misinformation and even malice. The president has chosen fear. We want to start with the facts."

"The fact is, women and children at the border are not a security threat."

Trump has chosen to "hold hostage" government services and paychecks of 800,000 innocent workers across the nation.

"The president is rejecting bipartisan bills to re-open government over his obsession to force taxpayers to waste billions of dollars on an expensive and ineffective wall, a wall he always promised Mexico would pay for."

Next in line was Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer who echoed much of the same sentiment that Pelosi did: Trump is appealing to fear, not facts.

Listen to everything he had to say.

Right now there is no end to the shutdown in sight. Trump is threatening to keep the government shut down for months, even years if he doesn't get $5 billion for his wall.
