Pelosi: Hey 'Moscow Mitch', I got news for you, you're not obstructing this! (VIDEO)
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is now directly referring to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell as "Moscow Mitch" in a speech at the Illinois Democrat County Chairs' Association brunch.
She's taking him to task for bragging that he's the "Grim Reaper," a term he gave himself for killing legislation in the Senate.
"We all want to invest in building our democracy and saving it from any enemies, foreign and domestic," Pelosi said. "We’ve sent our legislation to the Senate. Moscow Mitch says that he is the Grim Reaper. Imagine describing yourself as the Grim Reaper, that he’s going to bury all this legislation? Well, we have news for him. All this legislation is alive and well in the general public."
Pelosi is standing up for Democrats recent calls to cancel the August recess so America can finally pass sensible gun laws. She has already called back the House but Mitch isn't wanting to do his part.
Since Pelosi and Democrats have taken back over the House from Republicans they have passed over 100 bills that McConnell has then blocked from even coming up for a vote in the Senate. This includes blocking bills to address election security, which could prevent more foreign election interference as witnessed in 2016.
Mitch just doesn't care. Even after Mueller testified that Russia was already preparing to interfere again in the 2020 election "as we sit here," McConnell still blocked the bills.
This is how he got the "Moscow Mitch"term, which is a top trending phrase online.
Pelosi says all this obstruction is just a temporary road block and that in the end, the will of the public will eventually get these laws passed.
"We must pass gun violence prevention legislation," Pelosi, a California Democrat, said. "Every day we lose lives."
