Street in front of Trump Tower could be renamed "Barack H. Obama Avenue" if petition succeeds
A petition with more than 81,000 signatures and growing rapidly is seeking to rename a portion of Fifth Avenue in front of the Trump Tower in Manhattan after former President Barack Obama.
"We request the New York City Mayor and City Council do the same by renaming a block of Fifth Avenue after the former president whose many accomplishments include: saving our nation from the Great Recession; serving two completely scandal-free terms in office; and taking out Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind September 11th, which killed over 3,000 New Yorkers."
The site says they need 100,000 signatures in order to put it on New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's desk.
Elizabeth Rowin, the organizer behind the petition, thought it was just funny at first but was surprised at how many people actually want this to happen.
"I honestly started it as a joke," Rowin told Newsweek. "I saw a comedian joke about how it would make Trump so mad if it was named after former President Obama and thought why not."
Rowin says that some members on New York City's Council are wanting to take action on this.
Bill de Blasio, definitely not a Trump fan, could make it happen, too. We wouldn't put it past New Yorkers to send a strong message to Trump that his rhetoric is not appreciated nor welcome.
Here's the best part: if the petition really does make it through, Trump's new address at Trump Tower will be:
725 President Barack H. Obama Avenue, New York, NY 10022.
Wouldn't that just be hilarious? Trump can't just move the entire building, either. That would be impossible. He has an apartment up there that he considers his favorite, one of the most luxurious (as he puts it) in the world, that he calls his main home when not being president. Moving would be unforeseeable.
Expect Trump to try and fight this with all his might.
