Pelosi tells McConnell: Get your turtle butt back up here and pass gun control

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is now demanding action on gun control, releasing this statement:

"I pray that the President will listen to the 90% of the American people who support universal background checks. Once again, I call upon the President to bring Senator McConnell back to Washington to immediately take up House-passed, bipartisan legislation."

President Trump initially claimed he wanted to pass some strong gun control laws shortly after the two mass shootings in El Paso, TX and Dayton, Ohio, but seemed to backtrack over the last couple of days when asked what he was going to do.

Listen carefully to how Trump answered a question on his support for gun control measures on Sunday:

"So, Congress is working on that. They have bipartisan committees working on background checks and various other things. And we'll see. I don't want people to forget that this is a mental health problem. I don't want them to forget that, because it is. It's a mental health problem. And as I say -- and I said the other night in New Hampshire; we had an incredible evening -- I said: It's the people that pull the trigger. It's not the gun that pulls the trigger."

That should tell you where his mind is. He doesn't even think guns are part of the problem.

Also, earlier in the day Trump was asked again, this time specifically what he would do to support banning high-capacity magazines, and he started rambling about mental institutions and voter ID instead.

The reporter had to flatly say: What does that have to do with gun control? And, Trump just moved on to the next question.

McConnell is in hiding. He still hasn't committed to ending his August recess vacation and bringing the Senate back even though several Republicans say they would support it.

Pelosi has already done her part. Now she's doing whatever she can to publicly call on the Republican Party and it's leaders in order to get some sort of traction on gun control.
