Congressman Buys Multi-Million Dollar Yacht On Same Day He Voted For GOP Tax Bill

There's some things you just can't make up, and this is one of them.

According to a recently filed financial disclosure report, U.S. Congressman Vern Buchanan purchased a multi-million dollar yacht on the exact same day he voted with 226 other Republicans for the "Tax Cut and Jobs Act."

For the record, zero Democrats voted for the bill.

The report, by law, says that lawmakers are supposed to disclose major purchases but doesn't specify the exact amount, only that it was between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000, and from Ocean Alexander Yachts. If you take a look at their website, those are some expensive looking yachts.

Also - considering their least expensive yacht is the 70-foot 70E Motoryacht, Buchanan spent a minimum of $3.25 million.

We're curious why he did it on the exact same day he voted for the bill, though - just a coincidence?

Here's a tweet that Buchanan tweeted out last year: He said the GOP bill was going to be good for "middle class families."

According to the progressive group Tax March, and reported on by Florida Politics, the bill was estimated to save Congressman Buchanan around $2.1 million on his taxes every year - probably close to the price he paid.

While it's already widely known that the Republican tax bill was largely for rich people like Buchanan, this is just the latest revelation that middle-class families were cheated by the Republicans in Congress only to serve their own ends.

Here's Rep. Courtney explaining how the GOP tax cuts will undermine education all across the country, a consequence that hasn't been fully felt yet.
