Both McConnell and Pelosi team up in releasing statements against Trump
Just minutes apart, both Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell released statements calling on President Donald Trump to reverse his position on Syria.
Pelosi: "The President's decision to withdraw U.S. forces from Northern Syria is a disturbing development that betrays our Kurdish allies, who have been instrumental partners in our mission to eradicate ISIS."
McConnell released his statement as well, which called out Trump's lie that ISIS has been defeated: “A precipitous withdrawal of U.S. forces from Syria would only benefit Russia, Iran, and the Assad regime."
Inside of McConnell's statement there was a veiled threat to the president: "a supermajority of the U.S. Senate voted for an amendment that expressed... support for a continued military presence in northeastern Syria. The conditions that produced that bipartisan vote still exist today."
This signals that McConnell and the senate could try to take action against him. Right now, all we know is that Pelosi and McConnell are actually agreeing on something: Trump is being a disaster for the nation.
Earlier in the day Senator Lindsey Graham went on Fox and Friends and blasted him.
Senators Chris Murphy and Mitt Romney are calling on the Trump administration to now appear before Congress and "explain to the American people how betraying an ally and ceding influence to terrorists and adversaries is not disastrous for our national security interests."
Not many people are defending Trump on this sudden move.
Backing Trump on Syria: Rand Paul
Opposing: Lindsey Graham, Kevin McCarth, Liz Cheney, Romney, Rubio, Susan Collins, Haley Huckabee.
The list is growing. If Trump can't even get the backing of his own party on such a key foreign policy position, why are they still backing this guy at all?
