Biden responds to Trump trying to investigate him: He knows I'll beat him like a drum (VIDEO)
Joe Biden was surrounded by reporters in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, and took the opportunity to defend himself against President Donald Trump's attacks against him.
Biden, with his finger pointed:
"Here's what I know, I know that Trump deserves to be investigated. He is violating every basic norm of a president. You should be asking him the question. Why is he on the phone with a foreign leader, trying to intimidate a foreign leader, if that's what happened. That appears what happened.
You should be looking at Trump. Trump is doing this because he knows I'll beat him like a drum. He's using an abuse of power and every element of the presidency to try to do something to smear me. Everybody looked at this and everybody that has looked at it and said there is nothing there."
Biden turned the footage from CNN into a paid campaign ad.
This is the biggest story in politics right now, partly because Democrats could use it to impeach Trump.
Biden’s campaign co-chair, Rep. Cedric Richmond, dismissed the idea that this could hurt Biden's elect-ability argument in the primary:
“No. I don’t think so at all,” Richmond said. “In Congress, we work to get the facts out, we will continue to do that. But I think it’s very concerning for Trump that he would ask for help from a foreign government [to investigate] not just the frontrunner, but the guy who’s beating him by double digits in all the polls … the Vice President has said he’s confident he’ll beat Trump. The actions that are revealed now shows that Trump believes [Biden] will beat him.”
David Axelrod, Barack Obama's longtime strategist, even thinks this could help Biden since all the focus is on him now:
“I think, at least in the short run, it’s more likely to identify Biden as the candidate Trump fears and, perhaps, even benefit him among Democrats,” he said.
